Overview

APprenons, 2nd Edition, seeks to guide your students to a Pre-Advanced level of proficiency while preparing them for the revised AP® French Language and Culture Exam.

Transform the future through AP® French

Written by and for native French speakers, the authentic texts in APprenons allow students to engage meaningfully with over 30 francophone cultures.

Let your students compare a blog post to a poem by Charles Baudelaire, write a persuasive essay about franglais, or learn how to handle a car accident in France.

Ten chapters integrate the themes and contexts outlined by the College Board’s French Language and Culture Curriculum Framework, presenting the material as the exam does.

"Without any doubt, this is the most structured and well furnished book for AP® French I have ever seen."

Jean-Claude Hounou

Alexander Dawson School, Lafayette, CO

"[APprenons] has a wealth of material and ways of working with it that would appeal to high school students. Vocabulary is much more actively taught in APprenons than in the program I am using currently...and it needs to be! I love the way the grammar is presented, both the structures taught, and the way they are integrated with the theme and the task at hand. The documents included in the 2nd education would be very motivating for high school students. One example is in the technology chapter where students complete a grid charting their own use of technology in preparation for a reading. I like the use of graphs and tables throughout."

Cathy K.

AP French Teacher,

"I really like the overall approach, the up-to-date language, and many of the text selections! The layout is clear and appealing to students. I also like how well overall the resources are linked to a theme. They don't feel arbitrarily slapped together as in some other textbooks I've seen. I like how the book trains students to try to get at the meaning of words from the context."

Isabella T.

French 1-AP Teacher, CA

"LOVE IT! I first saw this at CTCOLT and after having had to write up my FR IV-AP program for certification and studying what was/is important for the students to know for the AP® exam ... I think it will be my students' bible for self-prep and classroom prep for the AP® exam."

Elizabeth AZ

French 4-AP Teacher, CT

"... a great way to prepare students for the format of the AP® exam. The structure and level of vocabulary aligned with themes will help prepare students. No doubts there!"

Nathalie C.

French 4-AP Teacher, VA

"It practices exactly like the exam, vocabulary and topics are up-to-date, and at the appropriate level of difficulty. Love the variety, quantity and quality of resources."

Pamela L.

French Teacher, FL

"I was really impressed to see in the "C'est drôle, l'école" chapter the "chosir sa voi de formation" chart, the sample report card, as well as the examples of how American grades correspond roughly to French grades. I have never seen such good realia anywhere else."

Ruth Ann G.

French 4-AP Teacher, Tennessee

The Interactive Digital Textbook

Your FlexText® is the page-by-page digital version of the textbook and is available through your Explorer® class or the FlexText® Library link on your Dashboard. Don't want to bring home your textbook? No problem! FlexText® is available wherever there is internet access.

A Community Bulletin Board

Learners and teachers alike use the Classroom Forum anytime as their online community bulletin board. Teachers love posting lesson openers, polls, links to external resources, and more. And students can comment, exchange GIFS, and upload audio, videos, and photos.

Learning to hold a conversation

Mock conversations with pre-recorded conversation prompts challenge your learners to hone their conversational skills. Learners record themselves replying to comments and questions, and the recorded conversations can be added to their portfolio as an artifact.

Tracking Their Own Progress

Online student portfolios follow learners from unit to unit, level to level. Students can upload evidence of what they can do in the language - assigned Can-Do statements, activities, quizzes, audio files, PowerPoint and Word files, and more. This allows them to set goals and reflect on their progress related to Can-Do Statements.

Efficient, Integrated Grading

Use the online calendar to remind students of upcoming assignments and deadlines, assign tasks to specific learners or an entire class, and more. Explorer® lets you know when your students complete their work and alerts students as soon as you’ve graded. Grade each quiz question response without opening each question in Explorer®. Automatic grading is available where appropriate.
